Best Time to Visit
The main Skardu travel season runs from April to October. Spring (April-May) brings blossom to Shigar and Khaplu; summer (June-August) is the warmest window, when Deosai is open, lakes are at their bluest, and trekking expeditions leave for K2 Base Camp.
September and October offer crisp air, golden autumn colours, and thinner crowds. Winters are harsh and many passes close, but Skardu's new international-standard airport keeps the town accessible year-round for those chasing snow-covered landscapes.
How to Reach
By air: daily flights connect Islamabad to Skardu in about one hour — on a clear day the route passes Nanga Parbat and offers what many call the most scenic commercial flight in the world. Skardu also now receives selected international flights.
By road: from Islamabad the drive takes 16 to 18 hours via the Karakoram Highway, turning east at Jaglot onto the Skardu Road along the Indus gorge — a spectacular but long journey best split over two days.
