Hunza in November: Late Autumn, Cold Nights, What to Expect
Hunza in November: leaves falling, cold nights, quiet forts and the shift from autumn gold to early winter — what is open and who should go.
Updated October 22, 2026

The short answer: is November a good time for Hunza?
November is a late-autumn, early-winter month in Hunza. Colour fades from the valley during the first half of the month, most leaves are down by mid-November, nights are cold, and crowds are small. It suits travellers who want quiet forts, clear air and low prices rather than peak gold.
If gold poplars are the goal, aim for mid to late October instead — see our Hunza in Autumn (October) guide. November works best for the first few days, when the last colour lingers in the lower valley.
What colour is left in Hunza in November?
Early November can still hold the last colour in Karimabad, Altit and the Nagar side, with upper Hunza already bare. By mid-November most leaves have fallen and the valley turns brown and grey under snow-dusted peaks.
Expect strong light and clear skies on good days, which still suit mountain and fort photography even without gold foliage.
What is the weather like in Hunza in November?
Days are cool and bright; nights are near or below freezing, with hard frost in the higher villages. Snow on the surrounding peaks is common, and a snowfall in the valley is possible later in the month. Pack real winter layers, not just an October jacket.
What is open and what may be closed?
Baltit and Altit forts, Karimabad bazaar and the main Hunza road generally stay open, though some seasonal hotels and cafés close or run reduced service. Attabad Lake boats may be limited by cold and low demand.
Khunjerab Pass depends on snow and the border gate, and closures become more likely as November advances. Confirm status the day before and treat any pass day as a bonus, not a guarantee.
Who should visit Hunza in November?
Travellers who prefer quiet to colour, want lower hotel rates, and can handle cold nights. It is a poor choice if Khunjerab is the main reason for the trip, or if anyone in the group dislikes cold.
If you can travel earlier, our 6-day Hunza Autumn Gold Tour is built for late September to late October. For deeper winter, Gilgit-Baltistan’s main cold-season product is Naltar skiing, which runs December to March.
